Two fires in one day occurred in the Catholic Church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris, arson is suspected, the publication Figaro reports .
“The Notre-Dame-des-Champs church, located on… Boulevard Montparnasse in the sixth arrondissement of Paris, has become the target of an arson of criminal origin,” the publication writes, citing a police source.
The fire broke out Thursday afternoon in the Chapel of St. Joseph. The fire damaged the wooden panels and recently restored canvas. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no casualties.

Earlier, a fire started in the church on Wednesday morning due to carelessness. The cause of the fire was presumably a faulty electrical circuit. The fire caused a malfunction of the sound system and damaged the organ.
Notre-Dame-des-Champs’ curate, Camille Millour, said on the church’s website that a report had been sent to the commissariat regarding the fires. The church itself will remain closed to visitors for an indefinite period while the investigation continues.
