When Stephanie and Dan Dworksy first saw their baby son, Kacy, they were shocked. Kacy was born with melanocytic nevus, a rare skin disorder that causes large, dark blotches over much of the body, including his face, arms, legs, and back.

Although the condition primarily affects appearance and is linked to an increased risk of skin cancer, it occurs in only one in 500,000 children. Stephanie struggles with daily feelings of guilt, saying, “You spend ten months trying to have a healthy pregnancy, and then you think you did something wrong.”

The parents also worry about the social challenges Kacy might face, such as stares, hurtful comments from other children, or parents keeping their kids away because they don’t understand the condition. Stephanie admits she sometimes avoids going out to protect her son from being bullied.
Despite the challenges, Stephanie and Dan are determined to raise awareness about Kacy’s condition, showing that he is a normal, beautiful baby. Their goal is to educate others and help people see that unusual skin conditions are not dangerous.
