Dad’s Gentle Coaching of 7-Year-Old Son with Spina Bifida Using Walker Inspires Millions Online

A father’s touching support for his son has gone viral, melting hearts around the world.

Chase Harris recently shared a TikTok video of his 7-year-old son, Cash, bravely learning to use a walker. The clip shows the little boy encouraging himself with the words, “Don’t be scared,” as his dad guides him step by step down concrete stairs and over a curb.

“The more you think, the harder it gets. Let’s go,” Chase coaches, while reminding Cash to lift his feet and keep moving. When the boy finally makes it onto the road, his dad proudly cheers, “Good work, baby. That’s what real bosses do.”

The video, posted on Sept. 11, has racked up more than 6.4 million views and tens of thousands of comments by Sept. 18.

For Chase, the short walk represented much more than a physical step forward. “We use this curb as a metaphor for conquering obstacles that could hold us back forever,” he explained to TODAY.com.

Cash was born with Spina bifida, a condition that affects spinal development. But his parents, Chase and Carly Harris, have never let that define him. Carly is a former pediatric nurse, and Chase, a fitness trainer, has dedicated himself to helping his son build strength and independence. The couple also share an 11-year-old daughter, Charlee.

“God orchestrated our dynamic,” Chase said. “Cash works just as hard as I do because he knows our goal is for him to be independent when he’s grown. That’s my biggest mission — to know he’ll be safe and secure when he’s out on his own.”

Chase believes Cash has the potential to one day become a Paralympian, while Cash dreams of playing in the NBA. Until then, father and son continue to motivate one another — and inspire families everywhere.

Earlier this year, a different video of Cash struggling to climb a step with his walker amassed more than 50 million views. Chase captioned his latest clip simply: “Love his strength.”
