David crouched down to tie Mia’s shoelaces. She was only seven, small and fragile. Lately, however, an invisible fear seemed to have settled in her gaze. He gave her a comforting smile and gently ran his hand through her hair, hoping to ease her worries.
Mia didn’t answer, her lips pressed together. She lowered her head, her small hands clenching around her T-shirt. A cold shudder ran through David’s body.
“Dad, can I stay home today?” Mia had never asked this before. Never.
That night, while he was washing the dishes, a dull sound echoed through the house—a muffled scream. David rushed into Mia’s room. She was curled up on the bed, clutching her teddy bear with an almost desperate grip, streaming tears down her cheeks.
The next morning, while Mia was still fast asleep, David entered her room silently. He held a small recording device, hidden under a light blue headband. He carefully pinned it to her hair, hoping to uncover the secret.
He spent the entire day in a state of tense anticipation, his thoughts vexing. Time seemed to stretch. When the clock finally struck 4:00 PM, David rushed to school, his heart pounding. Mia got into the car silently, as if nothing had happened.
Returning home, he connected the recording device to his computer, a lump of anxiety forming in his throat. A single audio file, over six hours long, appeared on the screen. He clicked “play,” his heart pounding.

David listened, his eyes glued to the screen, his heart pounding. What he was hearing made his blood run cold.
Mia’s voice trembled, but what struck her most was the voice of the man who accompanied her. The man, presumably their teacher, spoke calmly, too calmly, as if exerting an invisible pressure on the students.
“You know what I told you, Mia. Don’t tell anyone anything. If you talk, it’s all over for you.”
David felt his entire body tense. He couldn’t believe his ears. The teacher—the very one Mia respected and trusted—was threatening his students with such terrible words. He let the recording continue, hoping it was some kind of misunderstanding. But it wasn’t.
The man continued, his voice soft but corrupted, “If you don’t do what I say, there will be consequences for you and your friends.”
David closed his eyes for a moment, shocked. This man, this teacher, was manipulating children. He realized he had to act quickly to protect Mia and put an end to this nightmare.
