Anka rose to extraordinary fame in the late 1950s after the release of his breakout hit, “Diana,” a song that launched him into superstardom and cemented his place in music history. However, his success did not come easily. In a 1982 interview with Newsday, Anka revealed that achieving recognition at such a young age required careful planning and determination. Once “Diana” became a sensation, he created what he described as a “master plan” to ensure his career would be taken seriously beyond teen stardom.
Remarkably, Anka began writing and performing music at just 14 years old. His refined image, combined with his natural charisma and heartfelt performances, helped him stand out during an era long before artists relied on digital tools and technology. Anka’s personal life has been equally eventful. He married model Anne de Zogheb in 1963, and the couple remained together for nearly four decades, raising four children before divorcing in 2000. Anne passed away in 2017 at the age of 74. Later marriages—including one to personal trainer Anna Åberg and another to Lisa Pemberton—also ended in divorce.
Now 83, Anka is in a relationship with Michele Kahl and has said he does not plan to marry again. His passion for music remains undiminished, as evidenced by his recent Seven Decades Tour. He attributes his enduring success to discipline, healthy living, and avoiding the excesses often associated with fame.
