Patrick Swayze’s Brother Sean Passes Away at 63

Sean Swayze, the younger brother of late film legend Patrick Swayze, has died at the age of 63, marking another painful chapter for a family that has endured significant loss over the years.

The news was confirmed by Sean’s son, Jesse Swayze, who told TMZ that his father passed away on December 15 in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Sean’s death was caused by an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis, complications stemming from cirrhosis of the liver.

Sean is survived by his daughter Cassie and his sons Kyle and Jesse.

Remembered with love

In the days following his passing, loved ones shared heartfelt tributes celebrating Sean’s personality and warmth. His cousin, Rachel Leon, posted a touching message on Instagram alongside a recent photo of Sean wearing a Dirty Dancing-themed shirt.

“I’m devastated to share that my cousin Sean Swayze has passed,” she wrote. “This photo was taken recently to help us promote a Dirty Dancing crawfish theme. He was always full of energy and joy.”

While Sean never achieved the same level of fame as his older brother, he built a career in the entertainment industry as a character actor and crew member, appearing in films such as Letters from a Killer.

A family shaped by tragedy

Sean’s death comes more than 16 years after Patrick Swayze’s passing in September 2009. The beloved actor died at 57 following a public battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis he received in early 2008. Patrick remained an enduring Hollywood icon thanks to classic roles in Dirty Dancing, Ghost, and Road House.

The Swayze family has faced repeated heartbreak. Sean and Patrick are survived by their brother Don Swayze, 67, and sister Bambi Swayze, 66. Their father, Jesse Wayne Swayze, died in 1982, while their mother, Patsy Swayze, passed away in 2013. Another sibling, Vicky Swayze, tragically died in 1994 at the age of 45.

Though he lived largely outside the spotlight, Sean Swayze remained closely connected to his family’s legacy, and his passing adds another somber note to a story marked by talent, resilience, and loss.

He was 63.
