Bees, sign language, drawing, and more—5 of Kate Middleton’s talents that the media doesn’t cover. We reveal the Princess of Wales’s unexpected interests outside of protocol.
Since joining the royal family, the world has continually admired Kate Middleton’s elegance and impeccable taste, and her leisure activities are, quite literally, watched by millions. However, beyond her well-known hobbies—photography and sports—Kate has other talents that aren’t often covered in the media. What are they? We’ll tell you below.
Beekeeping
Everyone knows that Middleton’s younger brother, James, is passionate about beekeeping. But few know that Kate herself is also keen on tinkering with bees. The Princess of Wales has hives at her Norfolk residence, and during her visits, she happily shares jars of fresh honey. A case in point is her visit to a primary school in London, during which Kate gave the children honey “of her own making.” Incidentally, James’s passion for beekeeping is no accident. For the youngest Middleton, it’s not just a hobby, but a proven way to cope with anxiety and depression.

Sign language
A visit to Cornwall in 2023 revealed another side of the princess: Kate used sign language fluently to communicate with a hearing-impaired child. This 2023 incident was not an isolated one: Kate first demonstrated her skills back in 2014 during a meeting with Scouts. Rumor has it that Kate mastered sign language to keep up with her husband, who is proficient in sign language.
Playing the piano
I had the good fortune to see Kate at the piano during the Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey in 2021, when she accompanied Tom Walker in a touching piece dedicated to those lost during the pandemic. Her confident playing captivated the audience and inspired a new appreciation for the future queen. But even here, Kate is not lacking in modesty: despite her obvious musical talent, she humorously admits that she sings poorly. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen.

Artistic talents
Kate’s photographs of her children have long been a tradition, but few know that the future queen is also a talented artist. Her talent emerged while studying at St. Andrews and later found expression in illustrating Pippa Middleton’s wedding booklet. It’s said that during the summers in Norfolk, Catherine enjoys painting portraits of George and Charlotte, and it seems her eldest son has inherited her love of art.
Diving
In 2015, Catherine earned her PADI qualification, allowing her to dive to depths of up to 30 meters. Her passion for diving resonated with Prince William, a longtime scuba diving enthusiast. And it’s understandable: for a couple who spend so much time in the spotlight, deep diving is perhaps one of the few ways to truly connect with themselves.
