World’s Oldest Man, 113, Shares His Simple “Secret” to a Long Life

As science continues to push boundaries, the dream of dramatically extending human life still remains out of reach. Until that changes, many people look to the world’s oldest individuals for insight into what might contribute to remarkable longevity.

A Brazilian-born man has now claimed the title of the world’s oldest living man — and his explanation for reaching such an incredible age is refreshingly simple.

Over the years, centenarians have credited everything from yogurt and daily beer to avoiding stress or sticking to strict routines for their long lives. While researchers haven’t discovered a proven formula for living forever, learning how the longest-living people spend their days is endlessly fascinating.

The Oldest Man Alive

According to reports from the Mirror, João Marinho Neto became the world’s oldest living man last November following the death of the previous record holder, John Tinniswood, who passed away at 112.

At the time, João was already 112 years and 52 days old. He went on to celebrate his 113th birthday on October 5, cementing his place in the record books. He currently ranks as the 26th-oldest man in documented history and could climb even higher in the years ahead.

Though he is still younger than the world’s oldest living woman, England’s Ethel Caterham, João’s longevity remains exceptional.

A Life of Hard Work and Simplicity

Born into a farming family in rural Brazil, João spent his early years working the land. From childhood, he helped tend animals and harvest crops, eventually making farming his lifelong profession. He grew corn and beans and raised livestock including cattle, chickens, pigs, and goats.

Despite droughts and harsh conditions, he built a stable life, raised a large family, and became the patriarch of a remarkable lineage that now includes children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Today, João lives in a nursing home due to vision issues but still enjoys simple comforts like morning coffee, fruit, brown sugar, and free-range chicken.

His True “Secret”

Rather than crediting diet or routine, João believes his longevity comes down to one thing: people.

“I’ve always had loved ones around me,” he says, noting that he has spent his life surrounded by kindness and support.

His story suggests that resilience, connection, and contentment may matter just as much as any health trend — a quiet reminder that happiness and human bonds can be powerful ingredients in a long life.
