Boy with a camera: where did Colin Creevey from Harry Potter go?

Actor Hugh Mitchell appeared in only one film of the Harry Potter saga, but it was enough to leave a lasting impression. Our article explains why he never appeared in another Harry Potter film and how he’s doing now.

Hugh Mitchell was born on September 7, 1989, in Winchester, Hampshire, England. His first (and most famous) role was as Colin Creevey, a Gryffindor student, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which was released in 2002.

In the books, Colin was a prominent character, appearing throughout the story, becoming Harry’s ally in the fight against Voldemort and a member of Dumbledore’s Army. In the books, he died during the Battle of Hogwarts.

But Mitchell never appeared again on screen in the Harry Potter universe. The boy had grown so much that he no longer fit the character, so he was replaced by actor William Melling, who played a character named Nigel Walbert, created specifically for the films. He first appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

And what about Hugh? At first, he continued acting in films and TV series, and even had a small role in the cult classic “The Da Vinci Code,” playing a younger version of Paul Bettany’s character. But then the young actor decided to leave acting, realizing his true calling lay elsewhere.

It turned out that he and his character, Colin, shared a love of photography. Mitchell is now constantly carrying a camera, just like his on-screen character.

“I started out as an actor, but I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with photography. My experience in front of the lens has been incredibly helpful in helping me navigate the other side of things,” Hugh writes about himself on his website.

Mitchell specializes in portraiture, weddings, events, and landscapes. He especially enjoys capturing wildlife.

So Hugh didn’t become a movie star, but he repeated the fate of his hero, but in the world of Muggles, not wizards.
