The veteran actor was recently spotted out in Thousand Oaks, California, appearing far removed from his polished 1980s heyday. Dressed casually, Selleck wore a blue T-shirt layered with a lightweight linen shirt and black shoes, while his long, thick beard dramatically changed the familiar image fans remember from Magnum P.I.
The sighting marked one of his first public appearances since the cancellation of his long-running CBS series Blue Bloods, and it left some fans concerned about his condition. Observant onlookers noticed prominent vertical scars on both of his knees, sparking speculation that the actor may have undergone recent surgery. Earlier this month, he also raised alarm when he was seen leaving a gym in the same area, appearing to struggle slightly as he walked back to his car in footage obtained by In Touch Weekly.

Despite the rumors, there has been no public confirmation that Selleck has had knee surgery or a bilateral knee replacement. In the past, his representatives have firmly denied claims of hidden health issues. Back in 2017, his management dismissed reports suggesting he relied on a stunt double during Blue Bloods, insisting he was “healthy and vibrant,” even amid claims he was dealing with pain. Similar rumors resurfaced in January 2023, when allegations of “crippling arthritis” were also denied, with his team again stressing that he was in excellent health.

Selleck has been open, however, about his disappointment over Blue Bloods ending after 14 seasons. He portrayed NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show premiered in 2010, alongside Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes, earning a devoted fanbase along the way. When news of the cancellation broke, he made no effort to hide his frustration, saying he hoped network executives would “come to their senses,” as the show remained highly popular.

Now that filming has wrapped, Selleck is reportedly looking forward to a quieter life. After years of commuting between the East Coast and California for the series, he has returned full-time to his ranch in Ventura, where he plans to spend time with his wife, Jillie, and their daughter.

Fans will still get one final chance to see him as Frank Reagan when the 14th and final season concludes. Despite the show’s end, Selleck has maintained that viewer interest has never been stronger, noting that many people simply weren’t ready to say goodbye.
