I destroyed my son’s wedding — and I don’t regret it. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

A woman turned to Reddit to ask whether she was wrong after deliberately derailing her son’s wedding — an action she says she doesn’t regret, even though she admits it was extreme.

She explained that her son, Mike, had been married once before and shared a child, Tommy, with his ex-wife. Tommy was born with Down syndrome, and not long after his birth, Mike walked away from both his wife and child.

According to the post, Mike cut off all contact with his son, refused to see him, and provided no financial or emotional support. His family was furious over his decision to abandon Tommy, and the situation deeply upset his mother.

When she later learned that Mike was preparing to marry again, she decided she could no longer stay silent. She said she didn’t oppose him starting a new life — but felt strongly that he needed to be held accountable for abandoning his first child.

On the day of the wedding, just as Mike and his bride-to-be were about to exchange vows, his mother entered the church holding Tommy. She then publicly revealed that Mike had a son and described how he had completely neglected him.

Mike’s fiancée was visibly stunned as she processed the revelation. Within moments, she reportedly threw her bouquet at Mike before leaving the ceremony with her family.

The mother left shortly afterward. The next day, a cousin named Liam told her that Mike had erupted in anger and displayed a range of emotions in front of bewildered guests once the ceremony collapsed.

“Now I’m questioning whether ruining the wedding was the right thing to do,” the woman wrote. She insisted that sabotaging the event hadn’t been her goal — her intention was to force her son to confront his actions and take responsibility for Tommy.

While she admitted her actions might seem harsh, she said she didn’t regret that the wedding never happened.

“It may look like I went too far, but I felt it was important to expose how serious Mike’s neglect really was,” she explained.

She ended her post by saying she hoped the interruption would serve as a wake-up call, pushing Mike to change and finally step up as a father — before asking Reddit users the ultimate question: AITA?
