Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star Mama June Shannon recently made a rare public appearance in New York City, and fans were quick to notice her dramatically slimmer figure.

The 46-year-old reality star appeared to be at one of her lowest weights yet during her decade-long transformation journey. At her heaviest, Shannon weighed more than 500 pounds before dropping to around 150. Over the years, however, her weight fluctuated as she experienced several cycles of dieting and regaining pounds.

Her latest appearance sparked speculation online, with many fans debating whether she may be using the popular weight-loss medication Ozempic. Social media users quickly shared their opinions, with some suggesting the medication could explain her recent weight loss.

Shannon also debuted a new look, trading in her long-time blonde hair for a bold red shade. She wore a black-and-beige outfit during the outing, which took place at SiriusXM Studios in Manhattan. She was joined by her daughters, including Alana Thompson, Lauryn Efird, and Jessica Shannon.

Earlier this week, Shannon also opened up about a health scare she experienced last year. Speaking on the Virtual Reali-Tea podcast with hosts Evan Real and Danny Murphy, she revealed that she unexpectedly underwent a total hysterectomy in April 2025 after doctors discovered concerning cysts. The situation frightened her, particularly because she feared it might be ovarian cancer.

“I had fibroid cysts that later turned into separate cysts, and it really scared me,” she explained, admitting that the experience left her anxious given her family’s recent health struggles.

Although the surgery was successful, Shannon said she continues to deal with other medical issues that she has chosen not to discuss publicly until doctors determine the best course of treatment. Some days remain difficult, though she noted that her condition is not life-threatening.

Her health concerns have surfaced several times over the past year. In July, she revealed that she had been rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe pain just hours after a psychic warned her she was under extreme stress and could face serious health problems. Her husband, Justin Stroud, urged her to seek medical help. Doctors later determined that ovarian cysts were responsible for the intense pain.

Shannon has also been open about her past struggles with addiction, revealing that she has now been sober for more than five years. She said she no longer drinks, smokes, or uses drugs and rarely even thinks about that chapter of her life anymore.

Family has also been a major focus in recent years. Following the death of her daughter, Anna Cardwell, in December 2023 after a battle with cancer, Shannon fought for custody of Cardwell’s daughter, Kaitlyn. After a legal battle with her former son-in-law, Michael Cardwell, she was granted guardianship of the 12-year-old.

Shannon admitted that welcoming her granddaughter into the household has required some adjustment for her and Stroud, especially since the couple initially enjoyed their first year together without children living at home. Still, she says the family is working through the changes while honoring Anna’s memory.

Now sober, focused on family, and continuing to manage her health, Mama June appears to be entering yet another chapter in her very public and often turbulent life.
