Selena Gomez recently shared details about a deeply meaningful gift she received from her longtime friend Taylor Swift for her 30th birthday in 2022.

The 33-year-old star spoke about the touching present while appearing on an episode of her husband Benny Blanco’s podcast Friends Keep Secrets. During the conversation, Gomez revealed that Swift had created a handcrafted painting especially for the occasion.

According to Gomez, the artwork depicted a peaceful nighttime lake scene illuminated by the moon. Swift even added a personal touch by painting their exact zodiac constellations among the stars. The gift also included a message stitched directly onto the canvas that read, “Here’s to the next 30 years.”

“She did it on actual cloth and sewed every letter herself,” Gomez said, calling it one of the most thoughtful presents she has ever received. Blanco was equally impressed, telling listeners that it was “one of the best paintings” he had ever seen.

Elsewhere in the episode, Gomez confirmed long-standing fan speculation that the song Dorothea from Swift’s 2020 album Evermore was inspired by her. When asked whether their shared history makes Swift’s music feel more personal, Gomez said it absolutely does.

She reflected on how the two became close while navigating fame at a very young age. Gomez was just 15 when they met, while Swift was 18, and both were trying to understand the pressures that came with sudden success.

Looking back now, Gomez said she’s amazed by how accurately Swift captured parts of their friendship in the song. Fans had previously speculated about the connection, especially after a lyric referencing someone “selling makeup and magazines,” which many believed alluded to Gomez’s beauty brand Rare Beauty.

At the time the album was released, Swift never confirmed the theory and instead described the project as a mix of fictional stories and real-life inspirations.

Gomez also revealed during the podcast that Swift once wrote another song about their friendship called Family, which has never been officially released. She explained that the lyrics reflected the dreams they shared early in their careers — from her hopes of acting in films to Swift’s aspirations of performing in stadiums.

Listening to the song now, Gomez admitted it makes her emotional because those dreams eventually came true for both of them.

“It makes me want to cry,” she said, noting how special it is that Swift once wrote a song about their story together. “It was just the sweetest thing.”
