Mel Schilling dies aged 54: MAFS star passes away just days after revealing cancer had spread to her brain – as her husband pays heartbreaking tribute to ‘the queen of reality TV, an incredible mum and my soulmate’

Married At First Sight expert Mel Schilling has died at the age of 54, just days after revealing that her cancer had spread to her brain. The Australian psychologist and dating specialist had been battling colon cancer since 2023 while living in London with her family during treatment. Although a tumor was initially removed and she was declared cancer-free, she later shared that the disease had metastasized to her lungs in 2024 and, by Christmas 2025, had spread to her brain.

Her husband, Gareth Brisbane, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional tribute, saying she passed away peacefully surrounded by love. He recalled how, in her final moments, she used her remaining strength to whisper a message for him and their 10-year-old daughter, Madison — a gesture he said reflected her unwavering devotion to family. He described her as “the queen of reality TV,” an incredible mother, and his soulmate, praising her courage throughout two years of chemotherapy during which she continued working and rarely complained.

Schilling appeared on the expert panel of the Australian version of Married At First Sight for 12 seasons and also featured in the UK edition, becoming a beloved figure known for her warmth and relationship advice. Earlier this year, she stepped back from filming to focus on her health and family. Tributes quickly poured in from colleagues, including longtime co-star John Aiken, who remembered her as a compassionate professional and loyal friend who brought energy, kindness, and humor both on and off screen.

Beyond television, Schilling had spent more than two decades working as a psychologist before transitioning into media. She also briefly acted in shows including Neighbours and Blue Heelers. Friends and collaborators remembered her resilience, optimism, and dedication to her husband and daughter, while fans around the world mourned the loss of a figure who championed love and healthy relationships.
