There has been a storm surrounding “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Terry Crews (57) and his designer wife Rebecca King-Crews (60) in recent years.
They have gone through everything from serious addiction problems to infidelity scandals and illness, which have been major tests for their marriage.
Now the couple is lifting the veil on a heavy and painful secret – which has really left its mark – in a recent interview with the American morning program “Today” on Monday.
While her husband Crews breaks down in tears, his wife reveals that she has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease .
The 60-year-old says she was diagnosed in 2015, but that it is only now that she has chosen to share the news with the public, writes Page Six.
The reason is a recent medical intervention that has given her life back, she tells “Today”:
– I’m already seeing improvements. I’m able to write my name and dates. I can write with my right hand for the first time in probably three years.
The 60-year-old explains that she has undergone a procedure that alleviates symptoms on one side of her body, and that another operation is pending in September to treat the other side.
As the couple opens up about their diagnosis, husband Crews can’t hold back his tears.
“Watching her go through all of this over the last ten to twelve years has been incredibly hard and difficult. The shaking, the lack of sleep, the loss of balance […] I don’t know what to say. I get completely choked up with emotion just thinking about it,” he says, clearly moved.
The couple married in 1989. They have five children together: Naomi, Azriel, Tera, Wynfrey, and Isaiah.
This is not the first time the star couple has faced a health crisis. In 2020, Rebecca King-Crews battled breast cancer.
“It’s all very overwhelming, but I’m determined to fight my way through this,” she said at the time, according to People magazine.
However, the 60-year-old chose to undergo a double mastectomy, which is the removal of both breasts, as well as reconstructive surgery. After the procedure, she was declared 100 percent cancer-free.
At the time, she thanked her husband Crews for being her private supporter and nurse.
“He has given me all his support – and that has meant everything,” she praised.
Addiction and infidelity scandals
Despite the fact that the couple has stood together through several storms, there have been several rocks in the sea for the actor and his wife in recent years.
In 2022, Crews, among other things, dropped the bombshell that he had struggled with a serious porn addiction for many years and that he had repeatedly cheated on his wife.
This was revealed in his autobiography “Tough: My Journey to True Power”, where he also revealed that his wife King-Crews called the day she found out about the addiction and infidelity scandals “D-Day”.
After this, the couple lived separately for a period of time, until they found each other again through therapy.
Now they live together as usual, and the marriage is said to be better than ever, according to Page Six.
In Monday’s interview with “Today,” it also seems like the couple is doing well together. And as Terry Crews sits facing his wife, he is full of praise for his chosen one:
“Rebecca is the rock of the family. She’s my superhero,” he says warmly.
