Eric Roberts has spoken out to clarify long-running speculation about a supposed feud with his sister, Julia Roberts, insisting that their relationship remains strong despite past headlines suggesting otherwise.
The 69-year-old actor addressed the rumors during an appearance on the It Happened in Hollywood podcast, making it clear that there is no ongoing rift between the siblings. He acknowledged that like any family, they have occasional disagreements, but emphasized that mutual respect and affection have always defined their bond.
The speculation was partly fueled by a controversial 2018 Vanity Fair interview in which Eric suggested he played a key role in the success of both Julia Roberts and his daughter, Emma Roberts. He later walked back those remarks, describing them as inaccurate and inappropriate, and publicly apologized for them.
Revisiting the issue on the podcast, Eric firmly dismissed the idea that the comments caused lasting damage. He stressed that the narrative of a family feud was exaggerated, saying their relationship has never broken down and that they simply choose not to discuss each other publicly to avoid media comparisons and competition.
He also spoke warmly about Julia, praising her as an exceptional actress, a kind person, and a devoted mother, noting his admiration for her long-standing success in Hollywood. According to Eric, while they may not always be in constant contact or publicly vocal about one another, there is still deep respect and affection between them.
In his 2024 memoir Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far, Eric revisited his earlier comments and issued a more formal apology, admitting that his pride had led him to say something untrue. He expressed hope that Julia would accept his apology, acknowledging that his struggles at the time contributed to strained family dynamics.
He also reflected on the difficult periods in the 1980s and 1990s when he battled addiction, admitting that those years were challenging for his entire family. Despite that history, Eric emphasized that what remains today is not conflict, but a continued sense of love and family connection.
