During the final days of my vacation, I decided to tackle a big cleaning project at home. Even the basement, which had become a storage space for all sorts of old things, got some attention. While many items were tossed without hesitation, one thing in particular caught my eye: an old bedside table with elegant legs that my parents had used for many years. It was still standing in the corner, waiting for my husband’s opinion.
When he got home from work, he took a close look at the table and confidently said, “I’ll turn this into a gem.” Curious, I got a list of materials and headed to the store. The next day, we started transforming the old bedside table.

Step 1: Preparation
I carefully removed the handles, glass doors, and shelves. While I cleaned the glass, my husband took a grinder and removed the old varnish and paint. After that, he smoothed the surface with a fine-grain sander. We applied several layers of primer, each one dried thoroughly. Finally, we coated it with black acrylic paint. By this point, the bedside table already looked modern, almost like a designer piece. But we didn’t stop there!

Step 2: Adding a Soft Seat
We needed a solid piece of plywood for the top. My husband cut it to size, and I prepped several foam sheets of the same size. If you have thick foam, one layer would do, but I made one larger piece to add an extra 10 cm on each side for securing it to the back of the plywood.
Using a construction stapler, my husband attached the foam to the plywood, then placed the largest foam piece on top. For the upholstery, I chose a light blue fabric, cut it to cover the foam, and secured it with a stapler. For a final touch, we added decorative buttons to make the seat extra stylish.

We then attached the soft seat to the bedside table and screwed the handles back in place. Voilà ! The old Soviet bedside table had been transformed into a chic decorative pouf!

Conclusion:
I couldn’t be more pleased with the result! We’ve created a stylish and functional pouf-bedside table that now brightens up our hallway. It’s perfect for sitting down to put on shoes, and in my opinion, it looks fantastic. This project was a great success! How would you give old items a second life? Share your ideas with me! 😊✨
