My fiancé and I had been living together for six years, and a wedding was on the horizon. A few weeks before the wedding, we went to my hometown to meet my parents.
I suggested staying with my parents, in my childhood room. Adam was against it, he thought that a hotel was the best choice, but I insisted on my own.
The evening was wonderful, but when we went to bed, Adam couldn’t sleep for a long time. He said he wanted to go out into the fresh air. A few minutes later I heard him scream.
I immediately ran outside and asked in a panic what happened. Adam looked at me for a minute with a frightened look and answered.
– I saw your mother. She…
“Sasha! Your mother is kissing another man!” I froze. I knew that this moment could happen to me at any time, but not like this.
Adam, white with anger, demanded that I call my dad and tell him that my mom was cheating on him.
At that moment, Mom walked in and, despite all the drama, calmly said, “This is not cheating. This is how my husband and I live, and Sasha knows about it.”
“You knew? And you didn’t tell me?” Adam was stunned. He felt betrayed.
I tried to explain that I had no intention of hiding the truth from him, but I found it difficult to talk about something so personal that I barely understood myself.
I found out about it myself at 16, when I came home and saw them with other partners. It was hard to accept, but since then I have not interfered in their personal life.
But for Adam, it was not just a shock, but a real trauma, connected with his own painful experience when his mother cheated on his father.
Adam was shocked and said he would spend the night at the hotel.
The next morning, my mother tried to calm me down. “Talk to him, honey,” she said.
I went to the hotel to meet Adam. “I didn’t want to hide it from you,” I said. “I just didn’t know how to say it.”
He sighed and admitted that he needed time to process everything. We decided to wait with the wedding for now.
We decided to see a psychologist as soon as we got home.
