Marla McCants’ journey is one of resilience, filled with obstacles and powerful transformations. Growing up in Detroit, she faced childhood sexual abuse, toxic relationships, and struggled with severe obesity. Seeking a fresh start, Marla moved to Nashville after escaping an abusive relationship, but past traumas led her to emotional eating, causing her weight to soar to 700 pounds, leaving her bedridden.

As her health deteriorated with diabetes, arthritis, and constant pain, Marla realized the grave impact on her daughters, who had become her caregivers. This realization was a wake-up call, prompting her to take charge of her life.

Marla turned to the show “My 600-lb Life,” committing to Dr. Nowzaradan’s strict regimen, battling her fears of surgery, and enduring immense pain. Her motivation: her daughters. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a life-threatening complication during her surgery move to Houston, she pressed on.

After undergoing gastric bypass surgery, Marla initially struggled to maintain progress. But a heartfelt conversation with her daughter spurred her to change. A year later, Marla proudly took her first steps in years, losing 267 pounds and continuing her weight loss journey. Now leading a more active life, she shares her inspiring story through a book and blog, motivating others to overcome their own struggles.
