In the small Polish town of Lubaczów, civil engineer Krzysztof Kopecz learned of an old woman living in conditions far from comfortable. The 80-year-old woman lived in a dilapidated house in the middle of the forest, without electricity, without running water, without amenities.
When Krzysztof and his wife, an architect by profession, first came to visit her, they were shocked by the state of the house. The house looked more like a hut from a fairy tale.

The floor was collapsing, the walls were swept by the wind, and the only tiny window barely let in any light. It was dark inside, damp lurked in the corners, and the furniture seemed like it could fall apart at the slightest touch.
The couple brought food, clothes and a warm blanket to their grandmother. But looking at her difficult conditions, they realized that one visit was not enough.
Krzysztof and his wife decided to take action. They drew up a detailed plan for the reconstruction of the house and posted on social media asking for help.

The grandmother’s story spread throughout Poland and even beyond its borders. People responded immediately – some money sent, some building materials offered.
In a matter of days, a team of like-minded people was formed.
The work began to boil. Contractors insulated the walls, replaced the roof, and laid a new floor. Volunteers helped with the electrical wiring, brought the necessary materials, and brought hot tea and homemade baked goods for the builders.

While the renovation was going on, the grandmother lived with the neighbors. When she was finally told that she could return, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
Grandma looked inside and tears started running down her cheeks. This was not her old house, but a real cozy corner, full of light and warmth.
