Rescue takes in badly matted dog who appears like a wig—today she’s unrecognizable.

A haircut may drastically transform a dog’s appearance. Many abandoned and neglected dogs go ungroomed, which causes them anxiety since their fur becomes tangled and matted.

Recently, one stray dog was discovered with so much fur that she “looked like a wig” – until a rescue gave her a life-changing transformation.

Mac’s Mission, a special needs dog rescue organization based in Missouri, recently rescued a severely matted dog discovered in the middle of the road. The dog, now named Pear, was in awful form, with thick, matted fur.

The rescue stated that Pear “didn’t even look like a dog” but rather “looked like a wig” — “just a wad of hair.”

The rescue took her in, and a team of volunteers went to work treating Pear, giving her a “spa session” to clean all of her nasty fur.

“We got her cleaned up, shaved down, and bathed to get rid of any grime or fleas,” rescue founder Rochelle Steffen told Newsweek. “She got settled into one of our spaces and fell asleep pretty quickly.”

Pear was a patient good girl during the process: “She was the sweetest and just sat there while we got all the terrible thick matts out of her, which took quite a while.”

She stated that Pear did not have maggots in her fur and that the dog was lucky not to get hit by a car. However, Pear is missing an eyeball, which appears to be the result of a prior accident.

Mac’s Mission provided photographs of Pear before and after her therapy, which revealed a miraculous transformation:

“Pear has a new life ahead of her thanks to you all,” the rescue team said on Facebook, thanking its supporters.

Pear looks amazing; it’s hard to believe it’s the same dog! Thank you to Mac’s Mission for giving this adorable puppy a well-deserved makeover!
