These sisters were born into a family where seven out of ten families members were born with dwarfism 😲😲 At that time, doctors still did not understand why so many children with dwarfism were born in one family 😱
Because of their special appearance, the sisters and their other relatives performed on stage, entertaining people 😲 And are you interested in what the rest of this unique family looked like? Their family photo and story were told in the first comment 👇👇
The Ovitz family was more than just a family – they were a real troupe of performers, known as the “Lilliputian Troupe”, and traveled throughout Europe performing music and theater. They were Jews from a small town in the Carpathian Mountains, and seven out of ten family members suffered from a rare form of hereditary dwarfism.
Despite their peculiar physicalities , they did not withdraw into themselves. On the contrary, they turned their uniqueness into talent: they sang, played instruments , joked and entertained the public.
But the world they lived in was changing rapidly , and with the arrival of the Nazis, their lives turned into a real nightmare.
In 1944,the family was arrested and deported to Auschwitz. The Ovitzes suffered a different fate, no less terrible.
They were noticed by Dr. Joseph Mengele ,nicknamed the “angel of “death”, who was obsessed with medical experiments on humans, especially twins and dwarfs. He decided to use them as ” scientific material”.
Family members were subject to cruel and senseless experiments. They were x-rayed without protection, had their teeth pulled , had chemicals injected into their eyes, had bone marrow samples taken , and every inch of their bodies measured .
The doctor was interested in why there were so many dwarfs in one family, and also how dwarfs could live among people of normal height.
And yet, the Ovitz family survived.Despite the pain, fear , and inhumane conditions, they held on to each other. Moreover , they tried to help other prisoners, sharing crumbs of food and moral support.
When the camp was liberated, the family was among the few who escaped alive The whole world learned about these brave, little people with huge hearts.
The last of the Ovitzes, Pearl ,died in 2001.
