Mother warns after teen nearly dies in horrific charger accident : his entire chin to collarbone is covered in scars

A mum has spoken out about her experience to warn others after her 16- year-old son Rice Ogdal was struck with ” electric currents strong enough to kill ” him and ” barely survived”.
On April 30, 2024 , Danielle Davis woke up to the sound of her son screaming .
” I heard him scream ‘ Mom!’ and I ran into the hallway,” Danielle recalls .
Running into the room, she found her son with burns around his neck.
” He said, ‘ Something electrocuted me , ‘” the mother said .
Rice explained that while lying in bed, he turned over to get more comfortable and heard the sound of something falling from the floor.
The teenager’s phone was on charge so that the alarm would ring the next day .
But when he turned it over, the metal cord of his chain touched the exposed contacts of the charger in the extension cord.
The current went along the chain, burning the skin on the neck.
” Because everything was metal, it created a complete electrical circuit around his neck,” explains Daniel.
Rice remained conscious , feeling pain throughout his body as tension coursed through him.
” He said it all happened in a matter of seconds and he saw sparks on his neck,” the mother continues . ” He said his whole body hurt and he thought he was going to die.”
Rice was taken to the intensive care unit of Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma. Doctors diagnosed him with second-, third- and fourth- degree burns and said the shock was ” strong enough to kill” him .
Now the boy has scars visible on his neck from his chin to his collarbones , clearly repeating the shape of the chain.
Danielle noted that the incident ” really helped Rice become more careful.”
” We are incredibly grateful that he survived ,” she says . ” He could have easily not survived that night. It’s amazing that he stayed conscious and was able to call for help. It could have ended very badly.”
Mom warns: ” No message or notification is worth the risk of putting your phone on your bed. Any little thing can turn into a tragedy, and Rice is proof of that . Keep an eye on the cords and do n’t use extension cords at all .”
