Thanks to the dedication of rescuers, a young giraffe named Kiko now has a real shot at returning to the wild one day 🥹🥰.
It all began when Bernard, a devoted wildlife ranger at Meru National Park in Kenya, received an urgent call—an orphaned newborn giraffe was in desperate need of help. Without hesitation, Bernard rushed to the scene, determined to save the fragile life.
Transporting a baby giraffe is no small feat. With their delicate spines, giraffes must remain upright during transit, or they risk permanent injury. Bernard and his team carefully placed Kiko in a secure, seated position to ensure his safety as he was flown to Nairobi—an eight-hour drive he wouldn’t have survived by road.
Amazingly, Kiko remained calm throughout the journey. Wrapped in a protective jacket, he seemed to sense the rescue was for his own good, never trying to escape or resist.
Separated from his mother and vulnerable in the wild, Kiko’s odds were slim. But once he arrived at the Nairobi nursery, he adapted quickly—peaceful, trusting, and visibly relieved. He soon bonded with his new surroundings and even made two best friends: orphaned baby elephants also rescued from human-wildlife conflict.
Kiko has become a beloved resident of the orphanage, known for his sweet nature and sociable spirit. His rescuers still don’t know what happened to his mother, but they do know that his life is now filled with care, companionship, and hope.
Thanks to their tireless efforts, Kiko’s journey isn’t over—in fact, it’s just beginning. One day, he may return to the wild where he belongs, carrying with him the love and kindness that saved his life. 🦒💛
