One bride and groom ate fish for dinner—and dessert!

Allie Grace Decker and Tyler Schouten made a big splash at their wedding on April 26 at The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. Their 300 guests were immediately drawn to their wedding cakes, one of which was designed after a rainbow trout.

“Everyone was in shock seeing the cake, and all the guests were taking pictures,” says Leslie Ochs, principal designer of Alice and Apricot Weddings & Events.

A few days after the wedding, Ochs shared a now-viral Instagram video of Decker and Schouten’s responses to their respective bride and groom cakes. “… so different, but we can’t get enough 🤣🤩🤯🎂,” the luxury wedding planner and designer captioned the reel.

The couple was taken aback when they came into their reception venue and saw their opposing wedding cakes. “Shut up!” When they approached the groom’s cake, Decker screamed, “That’s insane,” and Shouten agreed.

Sweet Treets Bakery was engaged in February to create two wedding cakes for the couple’s special day. The bride had a conventional four-tiered white cake with a simple, draping fondant bow made by head decorator Michelle Leal. Meanwhile, the groom’s brilliant rainbow trout wedding cake looked like it was alive. Decorator Johnny Rodriguez spent five hours bringing the fish to life, creating the red velvet-flavored masterpiece.

“I’ve been asked for a fish cake before, but not specifically a trout,” says Virginia Acker, Sweet Treets Bakery’s wedding coordinator. “The decorators here at Sweet Treets Bakery are quite brilliant, particularly Johnny and Michelle. They bring joy from butter and honey.”

“A groom’s cake has long been a tradition and is not uncommon among many of our clientele. The groom’s cake is typically a fun way to do something special for the groom, while the traditional wedding cake remains exquisite and timeless for the bride!” According to Ochs, Schouten is “a big fisherman” and “wanted something that showcased his passion.”

The yellow-green trout had a red stripe along its side and a white underside. It also has black patches all over the body, including the tail and fins.

The fish was displayed on a bed of sugar ice cubes, which were placed inside a real YETI cooler on fake grass. The bride’s cake was surrounded by fresh white flowers and foliage.

“We really adored our wedding cake! “My classic, timeless wedding cake was everything I hoped for — elegant, beautiful, and the perfect complement to our day,” Decker tells PEOPLE.

The bride goes on, “My husband’s rainbow trout groom’s cake was not only extremely realistic and entertaining, but it was also a total discussion piece that kept our guests talking and laughing all night. And the best part? It was red velvet, a nice tribute to my favorite film, Steel Magnolias. It made the entire experience much more meaningful and intimate. Both cakes were wonderful moments from our wedding!”

Schouten was the most preoccupied with the catch of the day among the wedding guests.

“I think he was just genuinely shocked at how amazing it was and [how] realistic the fish looked!” Ochs says. “It was everything he wanted and he was so excited!”

“You heard a lot of ‘This is SOOO Tyler!’ which was exactly our goal!” she goes on.

The cake was nearly too fantastic to eat!

Hundreds of Instagram commenters agreed that the cakes were “exceptional,” and many praised Decker for allowing Schouten to create his own unique dessert.
