Young girl marries old man. How did young model Anna Nicole Smith become the wife of a 90-year-old tycoon?

In the famous painting “Unequal Marriage,” Vasily Pukirev depicted a sad scene of a wedding between an elderly groom and a young bride, reflecting the ordinary reality of life.

Likewise, the marriage between 26-year-old model Anna Nicole Smith and wealthy James Howard Marshall II reflects this theme, albeit with a different emotional tone. Vicki Lynn Hogan, later known as Anna Nicole Smith, was born into poverty and from a young age aspired to emulate Marilyn Monroe’s fame and find a rich husband.

After a difficult life, including a teenage pregnancy and a failed marriage, she began working as a stripper to make ends meet. It was during this time that she crossed paths with James Howard Marshall II, an 86-year-old billionaire. Marshall II, an entrepreneur and co-owner of Koch Industries, was smitten with Vicki’s charm and offered her patronage. Renaming herself Anna Nicole Smith, she underwent plastic surgery and, with Marshall’s support, achieved fame by appearing in Playboy and becoming a Guess model.

Their relationship, though unconventional, has proven mutually beneficial. They married in 1994, despite their significant age difference. However, their union was short-lived, as Marshall died just 14 months later. A legal battle over Marshall’s estate ensued, with Smith challenging her exclusion from the will.

Although she eventually inherited a substantial fortune after the death of Marshall’s sole legitimate heir, her life was marked by personal tragedies and a battle with depression. Smith died at age 39, leaving behind a complicated legacy and a fortune inherited by her third husband, Howard Stern, who had helped her with her legal battles.
