A puppy was left behind at the airport after being banned from a flight.
One day, a Des Moines International Airport employee discovered a small dog tied to a post outside the terminal with a short leash. The puppy was in terrible condition—weak, hungry, and thirsty. Without help, she wouldn’t have survived.
Animal rescue officials revealed that the dog’s previous owner, Charles Simon Bigsen, had brought her to the airport intending to fly to Newark. When he found out pets weren’t allowed on the plane, he abandoned the puppy and flew off alone.
Bigsen was charged with two misdemeanors for intentionally abandoning the dog. Many believe the punishment should be harsher, especially since the short leash caused the puppy distress and she might have died without rescue.
Fortunately, a loving family spotted the puppy at the airport. They immediately felt a strong bond and decided to adopt her, naming her Alice.
