Eggs are a breakfast staple, served in a variety of forms from omelettes to poached eggs, and are a great way to have a balanced breakfast. They pair well with cheese, tomatoes and bacon for a nutritious lunch.

Double-shelled eggs are a rarity, and despite video evidence of their existence, many remain skeptical of their authenticity. The phenomenon occurs when a nearly-cooked egg gains an extra layer of white and a second shell.

In a YouTube video that has racked up more than 3 million views since it was uploaded in July 2015, a man who described himself as “just an old Texas farmer wondering about nature” showed off a giant egg laid by a standard-sized hen. The video shows the farmer gently tapping and then cracking the shell of the egg to reveal the yolk.

He pours out the yolk, leaving the inside of the egg. He comments proudly, “Forget about double yolks, we’re talking about double eggs!” The inside egg, seemingly normal in size, is cut open to reveal a normal egg, just like the ones you’d normally find in stores.
