A disturbing discovery in a hidden cave by the seashore that left us shuddering with horror.
We decided to spend the weekend by the sea to get some fresh air, relax and enjoy the silence. Nothing special.
But as we walked along the rocks, with the warm water touching our ankles, something caught our attention.
A small opening, almost unnoticeable, hidden behind dark algae. A cave. Modest, quiet. Mysterious.
Out of curiosity, we came closer. And as soon as we crossed the threshold, a strange atmosphere enveloped us. The silence was deep, almost sacred.
And there, in the depths, on the wet stone… shapes. Shards, traces… it was impossible to immediately recognize what it was.
We were shocked, cold and enchanted at the same time. We couldn’t look away, not understanding what exactly we were seeing.
My son wanted to touch it, but I stopped him – and luckily!
Because later we found out that it was really… We regretted that we ever came so close.
And when we later found out the truth, we were deeply shocked.

Deep in the ocean, hidden in the shadows of a quiet cave, a barely noticeable crack held a priceless treasure.
It was there that Mera, the octopus with the piercing eyes, laid many mother-of-pearl eggs.
Attached to the rock, she guarded them tirelessly, gently caressing each shell with her flexible tentacles.
Refusing to eat, she devoted her last strength to the survival of her babies. Every movement, every vibration of her body kept the oxygen around her precious eggs.

Time dragged on, lulled by the sea currents and the play of shadows in this secret world.
One day, an unexpected wave entered the cave. Instinctively, Mera formed a living shield around her offspring. Then a miracle happened: the shell slowly cracked.
A tiny transparent octopus came to life. Then another. And another. It was a delicate choreography of silent births.
Exhausted but calm, Mera dozed, her maternal role almost complete.

With each new hatching, she gave away a little more of her breath. When the last baby was born, she gave away her last breath – a silent farewell.
Then she stood still, calm among the lives she had given to the world.
Her body, exhausted, gave up its spirit – for such is the fate of octopus mothers: to give everything until the last moment.
And the newborns left the cave, carried away by currents into the endless expanses of the ocean.

Much later, divers discovered this abandoned refuge. All that remained were the shells dissolved in the water and a striking image: Mera frozen in a final gesture of love.
This photo shocked the whole world – scientists, artists, parents… everyone saw in it a touching symbol of unconditional love.
