That day in Auckland, New Zealand, there was a terrible downpour. Passers-by were hurrying home. It became increasingly difficult to walk along the street, the streams of water washed away everything and everyone in their path.
The young girl was returning home. She quicklyened her pace and in her thoughts she was already basking under a warm blanket. Katherine did not look around, her face was covered by an umbrella.
She occasionally lifted the edge of her umbrella to see the road. Already quite wet, Catherine quickened her pace.
But suddenly, some force made her stop. She glanced at the grey, incomprehensible lump on the road. This lump was moving uncertainly in an incomprehensible direction. It was swaying, it was obvious that it was exhausted.
Katherine couldn’t figure out what it was. At first glance, it seemed like a rat.
But why isn’t she afraid at all and doesn’t run away?
The girl came a little closer and noticed that the creature’s eyes were closed. When she looked more closely, she heard meowing.
The faint squeak sounded like a kitten crying.
It was a newborn kitten. Its eyes were closed, even the umbilical cord was visible.
Catherine’s heart sank. She realized that the kitten’s mother was nowhere to be found now, and that he was completely defenseless. If she left him, he would die. The mere thought that he would not live to see tomorrow hurt her heart.
Katherine picked up the little gray lump and carried it home.
The new owner fed the pet from a pipette. He had a hard time coming to his feelings, but the girl did not give up. She did everything to help the fluffy one get out.
When the kitten opened its eyes, Katherine already clearly understood that she would never part with him.
This gift of fate brought great happiness to the girl’s home. A kind heart will always find someone to love.
