I called the police because we heard strange noises coming from our sofa – our dog alerted us – and when the police arrived they found something terrifying.
I would never have believed that such an ordinary day could turn into a nightmare, like from a horror movie.
That evening, my husband and I were sitting quietly in the living room. Our dog Max was nervously circling the sofa, growing and barking in an unusual way. At first, we thought it was just a whim or a reaction to some outside noise. But very soon, his persistence began to worry us.
Listening closely, I could hear loud, muffled thuds coming from inside the couch. Rustling sounds, as if something—or someone—was trying to get out. My heart started pounding.
Was it a trapped rodent? A wild animal that had found its way into the house? The thought alone gave me the creeps. Given Max’s growing anxiety and our own, we finally decided to call the police.
A few minutes later, two police officers knocked on the door. We explained the situation to them, almost embarrassed that we were disturbing them with what might seem like a simple fabrication.
However, as they approached the sofa, they heard the same strange sounds as we did. After a short discussion, they decided to cut the upholstery.
There was a heavy, oppressive silence as the fabric tore under their knife. And then… a discovery.
When the fabric of the sofa came apart, the air in the room seemed to freeze.
The policemen froze for a moment, then one of them cast a serious glance at his colleague. Inside, sandwiched between the foam rubber and the wooden structure, was… a skinny kitten, trembling with fear.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. How could such a creature be trapped there?
One of the policemen carefully pulled it out, and the poor animal immediately let out a weak but piercing meow. Max, our dog, immediately calmed down and carefully approached, as if to make sure that the kitten was okay.
We later learned that the sofa we bought second-hand just a few days earlier had likely been delivered with an animal accidentally inside. The seller had no idea, and the kitten, probably terrified, was unable to get out on its own.
