To help her walk again, doctors turned her legs backwards: the incredible story of a little African girl

A little girl named Justine was born with a rare disease. Her legs were so deformed that her feet literally pointed backwards. Despite her serious illness, the girl tried to live like her peers: she went to school, played ball, and climbed trees.

But with each year the disease progressed, it became more and more difficult to walk, and the children’s ridicule only added to the pain.

The only salvation could be a complex and expensive operation, for which the family did not have the means. But doctors from a charity organization came to the rescue. In September 2017, a medical ship entered the port of Cameroon to give Justine a chance at a normal life.

Surgeons had to take a desperate step: break the leg bones, rotate them 180 degrees and fix them in a new position. The girl had many months to recover.

After five months of rehabilitation, Justine did what she had dreamed of her whole life – she climbed the stairs on her own.

Today she can walk, learn and play without fear or ridicule.

Justine’s story is proof that miracles happen when there are those who are ready to lend a helping hand.
