Why Kate Middleton and Prince William hid the fact that Prince George would become king from him

Kate Middleton and Prince William decided to be especially careful.

Prince George, like his father Prince William , will one day be king. But William and Kate Middleton deliberately delayed telling their eldest son about his future to give him a chance at a “normal childhood.”

According to royal historian Robert Lacey, George only learned of his destiny around the age of seven — that is, around 2020-2021. Unlike William, who felt the pressure of his future role from childhood, his parents decided to be “especially caring and thoughtful” by allowing their son to remain an ordinary child for a little while longer.

” William takes his role as father to the future king as seriously as he takes his own role as heir to the throne,” said biographer Robert Hardman. “It is important to him that his children approach life not with fear but with joy.”

The same goes for the couple’s younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. According to sources close to the palace, 12-year-old George “is acting like a normal boy his age, and that’s what’s most important right now.”

Lacey added that  William speaks to his son more in terms of “destiny” than “duty”: “Duty” sounds like a constraint, while “destiny” sounds like a choice.

Back in 2016, William admitted that “everything has its time” and that the most important thing for now is to create a stable and loving environment for George. Today, the Prince and Princess of Wales continue to balance between the duties of the heir and the desire to give their children the most normal childhood possible.
