Some stories reach straight into the heart, and this is one of them. For 35 years, Raimundo Arruda Sobrinho sat in the same spot in Brazil. To most passersby, he was just another homeless man. But behind the worn clothes and long beard was a poet, scribbling verses on scraps of paper, dreaming that one day his words would be published.

In the spring of 2011, a woman named Shalla stopped to talk with Raimundo. Curious about what he was writing, she asked to see one of his papers. He handed her a poem—and she was stunned by the depth and beauty of his words.

Determined to share his talent with the world, Shalla created a Facebook page dedicated to Raimundo’s poems. What happened next was extraordinary: the page went viral, attracting over 100,000 followers. Suddenly, Raimundo was no longer invisible. Strangers came to meet him, praise his poetry, and even bring him gifts.

Among those who found the page was Raimundo’s brother, who hadn’t seen him in years. Touched by what he read, he reached out and invited Raimundo to live with him. Raimundo received his first haircut in 35 years and finally left the streets behind.

Today, he continues to write poetry, is working on publishing a book, and remains close friends with Shalla—the woman who believed in him.
