The early morning flight was packed with passengers. A man of about 50 stood out among the crowd. His dirty clothes, threadbare jacket, and tired face made others perceive him as a beggar. Out of breath, he showed his boarding pass and settled into a window seat in row 17. The woman next to him looked at him disdainfully, and flight attendant Emma cautiously checked his ticket and walked away.
Another passenger complained about the smell, but the plane was full, so he was forced to remain seated. A man named Paul calmly stared at the clouds outside the window, showing no emotion.
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out, “Hey, Paul, are you there?” It was Mark, a former classmate, now the CEO. He mocked him for his modest appearance. Paul remained unperturbed and replied, “It’s a long story, maybe someday…” and pulled out a pair of old glasses. His gaze remained steady, despite the trembling in his hands.
The plane shook slightly. The flight attendant announced turbulence, but the situation quickly worsened. A strong jolt shook the plane, causing panic. Passengers began praying.
Suddenly the cabin door swung open. Emma emerged, pale and trembling. “Is there a doctor among you? This is urgent!”

Paul’s gaze met the flight attendant’s, and without a word, he stood up, every movement measured despite his obvious weakness. The passengers held their breath: some were puzzled, others frightened. Emma pointed back: a man had fallen near the emergency exit, his face pale, his lips blue.
Paul approached and slowly removed his jacket, revealing the barely noticeable scars on his arms beneath his simple vest. In a calm but confident voice, he ordered, “Step aside! Give me space!” The passengers backed away, curious and frightened.
He knelt down next to the man, making precise movements, and a respectful silence reigned. A few seconds later—a breath, a flick of his fingers—the man came to life. A whisper swept through the cabin: who was this man everyone considered so pathetic?
Mark, still sitting a few rows away, paled when he recognized Paul: his former classmate was not only smart, but had also saved this stranger’s life on the plane. The passengers looked at him with surprise and admiration.
As the plane stabilized again, a shudder ran through the cabin: what they had just seen would forever change their perception of the man in the shabby jacket.
