Australian Mom Welcomes Record-Breaking 14.5-Pound Baby Girl

Welcoming a new baby into the world is always an unforgettable moment—but one Australian mother received a surprise far bigger than anyone expected. While most newborns weigh around 7.5 pounds, baby Willow Amey tipped the scales at an astonishing 6.6 kilograms, or roughly 14.5 pounds, making her almost double the size of an average infant.

Born in the Melbourne suburb of Boronia, Victoria, Willow is now believed to be the heaviest baby ever born in the state, breaking a previous record held by a boy born in 2018 who weighed 6.3 kilograms.

Her mother, Melis Amey, admits that even knowing she was pregnant didn’t prepare her for the surprise waiting in the delivery room. “When they told me her size, I just said, ‘Oh, no!’” she shared in an interview with 7News Melbourne. Despite the shock, the delivery went smoothly, and Melis is now overjoyed to hold her remarkable little girl.

The incredible size of baby Willow didn’t just amaze her parents—her grandmother, Glenda Amey, could hardly believe it either. “She’s enormous, absolutely enormous!” she exclaimed, laughing with disbelief.

Perhaps even more astonishing is that Willow is not the first supersized baby in the family. Melis revealed that her first child also weighed between five and six kilograms at birth, proving big babies run in the family.

When Willow arrived home, the surprises continued. Standard newborn clothes didn’t fit her—she needed outfits designed for babies three months older. Even diapers had to be shared with her big sister, making at least one task a little easier for the busy mom.

After delivering not one but two giant babies, Melis definitely deserves a breather—and little Willow has already made history before even leaving the nursery.
