Critics lashed out at a mother online, claiming she “didn’t deserve her child” after she revealed she had named her baby after her favorite snack.

Preparing for a newborn usually involves buying clothes, baby-proofing the house, and choosing essentials like a crib or stroller. But for many parents, the hardest decision of all is picking a name—one their child will carry for life. Some families honor tradition by choosing names passed down through generations, while others look for something meaningful or symbolic.

One mother, however, sparked outrage on social media after taking a very unconventional approach.

In March 2023, a pregnant woman posted a video on TikTok via the account @thealexanderfamilyy, where she was seen eating her favorite food. Text over the video hinted that backlash was coming, as she wrote, “I’m going to get hate for her name but we will call her…”

Later, she shared another video holding her newborn and revealed the baby’s name—Pickle.

The reaction was immediate and intense. Many commenters argued that the name was inappropriate and worried the child would be bullied in the future. Some mocked the decision, while others were openly hostile.

Comments ranged from disbelief and ridicule to outright condemnation, with some users questioning the mother’s judgment and parenting skills. One even wrote that the baby would likely grow up hating the name and eventually change it.

The mother, however, appeared unfazed, responding casually and even humorously to the criticism. She pushed back, questioning why people were so upset and insisting her child was happy and thriving.

As the debate continued, several users pointed out that “Pickle” was actually just a nickname used online to protect the child’s privacy—not her legal name. Others admitted they enjoyed how many people believed it was real.

Amid the backlash, some voices defended the mother, reminding critics that naming a child is a personal choice—and ultimately, it’s her baby, not the internet’s.
