As people age, they often become easier targets for criminals—whether because they’re perceived as weak or because they aren’t as up-to-date with technology. That’s why it’s more important than ever for seniors to know how to protect themselves. Some take self-defense classes; others rely on pure instinct when danger appears.
This Sunday morning started out quiet and ordinary… until everything changed.
A 65-year-old grandmother expected nothing unusual when she woke up. But then she heard a strange noise outside—something that immediately put her on alert. When you’re a grandma, you pay attention to things like that.
A 300-pound intruder was about to discover he picked the wrong victim.
Curious and concerned, the woman looked out her window. There, she saw a man behaving suspiciously—rattling her car door handles and pounding on the window. Even worse, he was wearing nothing but his underwear. The sight alone was disturbing, but the danger was real: he was clearly trying to break into her car and possibly much more.
Bracing herself, the grandmother grabbed the closest thing she had for protection—her baseball bat. She had played softball back in high school, so she knew exactly how to swing it. The intruder, Adam Mosley, may have only been 5’6”, but at 300 pounds, he was an intimidating presence.
Then things escalated fast.
The moment Mosley spotted her, he charged toward the house. The grandmother, however, stood her ground. Instead of panicking, she lifted the bat and struck him hard on the back of the head. He yelled, grabbed his skull, and immediately ran—bolting toward a nearby trailer park.
But he made a crucial mistake: he left all his clothes behind except his boxers.
Police, with help from a K-9 unit, quickly tracked him down. When they found him, he had thrown on a new pair of pants—but the pockets were filled with cocaine. He was arrested for burglary and drug possession, and the grandmother confidently identified him.
She later said the intruder was lucky she didn’t have a gun—because the outcome could have been very different.
This tough grandmother proved she was more than capable of defending herself. Sadly, not everyone in her situation is as fortunate.
