Shalom Blac, a survivor of a life-altering burn accident, has opened up about how years of torment from bullies nearly drove her to take her own life — and how makeup helped her rediscover strength, purpose, and self-worth. Today, she is not only a thriving makeup artist but also an inspiration to millions who have struggled with self-image, trauma, or rejection.

Shalom was only nine years old when her life changed forever. While helping in her mother’s restaurant in Nigeria, a pot of boiling oil tipped over, spilling across her head, face, shoulders, and upper body. The burns were so severe that she spent four months in the hospital, fighting through pain, surgeries, and the uncertainty of what her future would look like. When she finally returned home, instead of receiving support, she found herself at the center of relentless cruelty.

Children mocked her appearance, calling her “monster,” “scarface,” and “two-face.” Those words followed her everywhere — in school hallways, on the streets, even in moments where she tried to feel normal. The emotional wounds became deeper than the physical ones. “I didn’t want to live anymore,” she said, describing how the constant abuse stripped her of hope and joy.
In search of a new beginning, Shalom moved to the United States. But the bullying didn’t disappear — it grew. Strangers stared at her in public; kids whispered behind her back; some even laughed openly. In her now-viral emotional video, she removes her makeup while sharing her story, exposing not only her bare skin but the vulnerability she carried for years. “I thought America would be different,” she says. “But the bullying just continued… to the point that I actually wanted to commit suicide.”

She remembers one moment vividly — standing alone in the bathroom with a knife, questioning her worth. “I kept wondering why people didn’t like me,” she said. “Why they saw a monster instead of a human being.”
But slowly, something shifted. Through learning makeup, Shalom began to see beauty not as perfection but as power. Each brushstroke reminded her that she could shape her identity, not just hide behind it. She began focusing on self-love, healing her inner wounds, and learning to embrace the girl looking back at her in the mirror. “I realized I was beautiful — from the inside,” she says.

That realization changed everything.
Today, Shalom is a celebrated makeup artist and YouTube creator with hundreds of thousands of followers. Her channel features makeup tutorials, scar-friendly beauty techniques, and messages of empowerment for anyone who feels different or unseen. Her videos have amassed millions of views, but more importantly, they’ve touched people who needed to hear that survival is not only possible — it can become a source of strength.

Shalom now believes her past was not a curse but a calling. “At this point in my life, I don’t regret what happened to me,” she says. “I feel like I was meant to do this — to help others. Even if I had the chance to take it back, I wouldn’t.”
She hopes her journey inspires others to embrace themselves, scars and all. “I’m just glad my story can help someone realize their life is worth living.”

Through resilience, courage, and the art she once used to hide behind, Shalom Blac has transformed her pain into purpose — and become a voice of hope for countless others searching for reasons to keep going.
