Manila — A terrifying early-morning fire in Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu, turned into a powerful story of courage when a woman risked her life to save her two dogs.

As flames tore through a residential building and thick smoke filled the air, 32-year-old Ei Mei Lee Maningo remained calm under pressure. While others fled, she refused to leave without her beloved Pomeranians, putting their safety ahead of her own.
Eyewitness footage, now widely shared on social media, shows Maningo standing on a smoke-filled balcony, clutching her frightened pets. One by one, she carefully dropped them into the waiting arms of firefighters and nearby residents below, who caught them safely.

With the fire intensifying, Maningo then climbed onto a hanging ladder attached to a fire truck, narrowly escaping the blaze in a dramatic descent that stunned onlookers.
Fire officials believe the blaze was caused by an electrical fault. A second alarm was raised, and firefighters from the Mandaue Bureau of Fire Protection managed to contain the fire within 40 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. While the structure suffered severe damage, no lives were lost.
Maningo sustained only minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. Remarkably, both dogs were unharmed.
Her actions have drawn widespread praise online, with many calling her a real-life hero. Social media users applauded her bravery, emphasizing that her dogs were more than pets — they were family.
As authorities continue investigating the fire, Maningo’s selfless act stands as a moving reminder of the powerful bond between humans and their animals, proving that courage is often born from love.
