Mom Welcomes New Baby — Golden Retriever Makes It Clear Who Came First

A golden retriever has gone viral after hilariously reminding his owner that, baby or not, he still considers himself her “firstborn.” In a widely shared Instagram video, the lovable pup delivers his message in the most mischievous way possible — and the internet can’t get enough of it.

The clip, posted by @hudsonbegood, shows the dog gently approaching a newborn before carefully lifting the baby’s tiny wool hat off his head and trotting away with it. The playful moment was captioned, “Reminding mom that I’m her actual first born child.”

The post didn’t stop there. In a heartfelt follow-up message written from the dog’s point of view, the caption read: “Sorry not sorry, little bro. It’s my little brother’s birthday today and even though I love stealing your hats, I love being your brother even more. Here’s to many, many memories together. Love you, bro!”

The dog’s owner, Allissa Mason from Philadelphia, told Newsweek that her 7½-year-old golden retriever has been smitten with his baby brother since day one — especially with his hats. “Hudson has always loved pom-poms, so stealing his brother’s hat was inevitable,” she said, adding that the dog may have also felt it was the perfect moment to reassert his “firstborn” status.

Mason explained that she introduced the baby and Hudson gradually, staying close to ensure everyone felt comfortable. From the start, it was obvious the dog adored being around the baby, and the family embraced Hudson’s playful personality.

The heartwarming video quickly took off, amassing over 1.3 million views and more than 32,000 likes. Commenters flooded the post with laughs and love, joking that firstborns — furry or not — never forget their place.
