The 41-year-old Duke of Sussex is reportedly increasingly focused on rebuilding family ties following a brief meeting with his father, King Charles III, at Clarence House in September and amid a review of his security status in the UK. There’s a good chance Prince Harry will once again be provided with state protection during his visits to his homeland.
However, 44-year-old Meghan Markle doesn’t view these changes in a positive light. She still doesn’t want to return to what she considers a bygone era, marked by hostility and intense public scrutiny.

An insider close to the couple said the dispute was “deeply emotional” and “threatens to tear them apart – geographically and emotionally.”
“The tension between the couple isn’t due to a breakdown in affection or commitment,” the insider noted. “The difficulties stem from two very different concerns pulling them in opposite directions. Harry is becoming increasingly fixated on the idea of visiting Britain more often. He constantly brings up the topic, aware of his father’s deteriorating health and feeling that opportunities for reconciliation are slipping away with each passing day. He believes the coming year is exacerbating this sense of urgency and irreversible consequences. Harry’s desire to return to the UK could truly break his marriage to Meghan.”
The source added that Markle still does not want to return to the UK for the sake of her homesick husband.

“For her, the UK is associated with some of the most stressful and painful periods of her life,” the insider recalls. “The thought of returning evokes memories of constant attention and emotional strain, and she’s very reluctant. She’s feeling genuinely disappointed. What she thought was in the past has once again become a central and inevitable point of contention in the marriage.”
Harry and Meghan are growing increasingly distant, also due to their diverging professional paths. Markle has become immersed in Hollywood projects, including working for Netflix and expanding her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

According to a source, conversations about Britain between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex intensified over Christmas. Harry has publicly spoken of reconciliation with the firm, stating last year that he would welcome a reunion amid health issues affecting his family.
“Harry deeply regrets the lost time and conversations and views spending more time in the UK as a way to bridge the emotional distance. He believes a return is not only a practical step but also a chance to heal old wounds before it’s too late,” the insider emphasized.

Markle has other priorities.
Her instinct is to shield herself and her children from experiences that she fears might reopen painful chapters,
— the source added.

The prince is adamant that his and Meghan’s children should grow up understanding where he came from and have a real family relationship with their grandfather: “Harry finds himself in a painful position, torn between his commitments to his wife and children and a strong sense of unfinished business… If neither spouse is willing or able to compromise, there is a real concern among those close to them that this single unresolved issue could become a tipping point in the relationship, leading to them finally filing for divorce this year.”
