The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” couldn’t have been more fitting after a group of people came together to make one little boy’s birthday unforgettable. Angel David, turning eight, walked into his classroom at Colegio Presbítero Gabriel Yepes Yepes in Ebéjico, Western Antioquia, Spain, completely unaware of the surprise awaiting him. By the end of the day, it became a moment he—and everyone present—would never forget.
Coming from a family with limited financial resources, David had never experienced a birthday celebration before, despite seeing his peers celebrate theirs. Being one of four children, he longed for a special day of his own. Determined to make it happen, he bravely approached the mothers of two classmates and shared his wish for a birthday celebration.
Touched by his request, the mothers decided that David shouldn’t go another year without a proper celebration. With the support of David’s teacher, Casas Ximeno, they organized a surprise party involving students, other teachers, and friends from the community.
When David entered the classroom, the room erupted with the sound of his classmates, friends, and teachers singing “Happy Birthday.” Overwhelmed with emotion, he began to cry tears of joy, realizing that his dream had finally come true.
The celebrations included an apple-themed cake, apple drinks, and chocolates for everyone. His cake was decorated with images of his favorite “Paw Patrol” characters, and the classroom was adorned with balloons and a colorful tablecloth, creating the perfect birthday atmosphere for a second grader. After singing, everyone hugged David, shared treats, and presented him with gifts they had pooled together.
Overjoyed, David expressed his gratitude: “I had never had a birthday like that before, and it made me so happy. I cried happy tears because I was feeling so much joy. My friends hugged me and wished me to live to 3,000 years. I already can’t wait to celebrate my next birthday with my family and friends.”
It was a heartwarming reminder of how a community’s love and kindness can create magical, unforgettable moments for a child.
