Once hailed as the biggest rock star on the planet, he now looks almost unrecognizable…

Sir Paul McCartney — the legendary musician who rose to global fame as a member of The Beatles — recently surprised fans with a striking new look while vacationing in St. Barts with his wife, Nancy Shevell. The 78-year-old icon was spotted sporting a man bun during the couple’s annual Caribbean getaway, appearing relaxed and in high spirits despite the global travel limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Even as he approaches his 80th birthday, McCartney continues to radiate youthful energy, clearly unafraid to experiment with his appearance. Nancy complemented the laid-back holiday vibe, stepping out in a pink top, wide-brimmed brown hat, and oversized sunglasses, looking effortlessly chic by his side.

Throughout their careers, McCartney and his fellow Beatles were known for constantly changing hairstyles, and Paul in particular has famously worn his hair long for much of his life. His recent embrace of a tied-back bun is simply the latest example of his curiosity and willingness to refresh his image.

In 2018, McCartney made headlines when he ditched hair dye altogether, choosing to embrace his natural gray — a notable departure from the signature reddish tones he had maintained for years.

The St. Barts vacation capped off a productive holiday season for the music legend, who also released his solo album McCartney III. The record was written and recorded during lockdown, a process McCartney later described as completely unplanned.

Speaking in a promotional interview with actor Idris Elba, he explained that he never set out to make an album during isolation — it simply came together organically.

“Everyone was clearing out cupboards and finishing things they’d been putting off,” McCartney said. “For me, that turned into making an album. I didn’t even realize that’s what I was doing. I just had ten tracks and thought, ‘What am I going to do with these?’ I only recorded ten songs because I didn’t know I was making a record.”

When it came time to name the project, McCartney said the title McCartney III felt like the obvious choice. The name reflects both the solo nature of the album and its connection to his earlier self-titled releases, McCartney I and McCartney II.

“Once I realized I’d made it in the same spirit as the first two, I thought, ‘Well, this must be McCartney III,’” he explained. “That’s when it all clicked.”
