The world star of alpine skiing updates her health status and appears resigned to the fact that she will even have to continue undergoing surgery.
Lindsey Vonn (41 years old) has been going through a true ordeal since suffering a serious fall last Sunday during the women’s downhill race at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympic Games. She had to be urgently evacuated by helicopter, leaving all the fans on edge. Since then, the American skier has had to undergo surgery four times in less than seven days, a truly complicated situation that she is facing with great fortitude, even though it is anything but easy.

From her hospital bed at Ca’ Foncello in Treviso, Italy, where she remains hospitalized, the global winter sports star gave an update on her health this Friday through a video shared on her social media accounts for her legion of fans (she has almost 3.5 million followers on Instagram alone). “Hi, guys. I just wanted to give you a little update and thank you so much to everyone who’s been sending me flowers, letters, sharks, stuffed animals… It’s been wonderful and has helped me a lot,” she began, her face calm but resigned.

“These have been some pretty tough days ,” the four-time world champion admitted with great regret. “I’m finally feeling better, but I still have a long way to go,” she added. She explained that she was scheduled to undergo surgery again on Saturday, and “I hope it goes well. After that, I’ll be able to go home, at which point I’ll need another surgery,” she added. In other words, she still has at least one more operation to look forward to once she sets foot on American soil. “I don’t know exactly what that entails yet, but that’s how I am right now, practically immobile,” she lamented.

As expected, Lindsey Vonn is receiving in-person support and love from her loved ones, as she herself has said: “Many friends and family members have come to see me, and all the staff and medical team are being incredible .” For this reason, the living legend of skiing confesses that “I feel very fortunate to have so many people around me helping me through this.” Finally, she wanted to send encouragement to her teammates who are still competing, with a “Go, USA! It’s great to see you all and you’ve lifted my spirits. Great job, team! Keep it up!”
This week, the athlete born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, shared images of the gruesome injury she sustained after fracturing her left leg, the result of a tragic accident on the track that could definitively end her brilliant career. The 2019 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports recipient was at these Olympic Games a story of incredible resilience, having competed just nine days earlier in Switzerland after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament and recovering in record time. Now, Vonn’s dream of returning to the elite has come to an end, although it’s impossible to know if she’ll try again given her incredibly competitive spirit.
