Actor Colman Domingo has expressed hope that Paris Jackson will eventually feel positive about the upcoming biographical film about her father, the legendary pop icon Michael Jackson. Speaking in an interview with WSJ Magazine, Domingo addressed the mixed reactions surrounding the project and shared his wish that the singer’s daughter will ultimately see the film as a respectful tribute.
“I hope she’ll ultimately be happy with the tribute we’ve made to her father,” Domingo said, acknowledging that the production has sparked discussion within the Jackson family and among fans of the late performer.
Paris Jackson previously voiced concerns about the project after Domingo publicly suggested in interviews that she and her brother would likely support the film. The 26-year-old musician and model later clarified that the situation was more complicated. According to her comments, she had read an early draft of the screenplay and offered feedback on certain elements she believed were inaccurate or misrepresented aspects of her father’s life.
When those concerns were not addressed in the way she had hoped, Paris reportedly decided to distance herself from the project. Her response fueled further debate online about how closely biographical films should work with family members when portraying the lives of famous figures.

The upcoming film, titled Michael, aims to tell the life story of the performer widely known as the “King of Pop.” Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, the movie will explore Michael Jackson’s rise from a child star in the The Jackson 5 to one of the most influential entertainers in music history.
In the film, Domingo portrays Jackson’s father and manager, Joe Jackson, a complex figure often credited with pushing his children toward extraordinary success while also being criticized for his strict and controversial parenting style. Domingo has described the role as both challenging and deeply layered, noting that the film attempts to show different sides of the Jackson family dynamic.
The role of Michael Jackson himself is played by Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew and the son of Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson. Casting a real member of the Jackson family in the lead role has been one of the most talked-about aspects of the project, with filmmakers saying that Jaafar closely resembles his late uncle both physically and musically.

Michael Jackson remains one of the most iconic figures in the history of popular music. Over the course of his career, he released groundbreaking albums such as Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous, redefining pop music and influencing generations of performers. His elaborate music videos, signature dance moves like the moonwalk, and record-breaking tours helped cement his status as a global cultural phenomenon.
Because of Jackson’s immense legacy — and the controversies that surrounded parts of his life — the film’s creators have faced significant expectations from fans and critics alike. Domingo noted that everyone involved in the project is aware of the responsibility that comes with portraying such a legendary and complicated figure.
“We all understand how important Michael Jackson’s story is to people around the world,” the actor explained, emphasizing that the goal of the film is to celebrate the artist’s life and impact while telling his story with care.
The biopic Michael is scheduled to arrive in theaters in April 2026. With anticipation already building among fans of the late singer, the film is expected to spark renewed conversations about Jackson’s extraordinary career, his influence on music and entertainment, and the complicated legacy he left behind.
