Cher’s son Chaz Bono weds ‘love of my life’ Shara Blue Mathes in front of famous mom in Hollywood

After nearly ten years together, Cher’s son Chaz Bono and Shara Blue Mathes have tied the knot.

The couple exchanged vows on March 8 at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, with Chaz’s famous mother in attendance.

In an interview with People, the 57-year-old groom called Shara the “love of my life” and said she makes him feel “complete.” He added, “She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as partner, my best friend, and the love of my life. No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together … and we are home.”

Chaz and Shara first met in January 2017, a decade after Chaz’s transition from female to male, and became engaged in recent years. As a child, Chaz was known as Chastity and appeared on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, the variety show hosted by his parents. Today, he acts in series like American Horror Story and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Shara, from Hollywood, California, began her acting career at 15, starring alongside 16-year-old Jason Bateman in the TV comedy series It’s Your Move, which ended in 1985. When the two first met in spring 2017, Shara was not looking for a relationship, but romance quickly blossomed. Friends told DailyMailTV that they bonded over their shared experiences growing up in the entertainment industry and overcoming past struggles with drug addiction.

Shara has since left acting and now works for the homeless charity Housing Works in Los Angeles. She previously revealed that her addiction prevented her from caring for her son, Cooper, for two years. On his 18th birthday, she wrote on Facebook about the difficulty of rebuilding their relationship and her gratitude for her family’s support during that time.

Chaz has also been open about his past struggles with prescription drug addiction, which began as a way to cope with the deaths of his father Sonny Bono in 1998 and his partner Joan Stephens. In his 2011 memoir Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man, he described how these personal losses led him into a downward spiral.

Both Chaz and Shara have successfully overcome their addictions and support each other fully. A source told DailyMailTV that they travel frequently, make time to see each other’s families, and have been warmly welcomed by Cher and her mother Georgia, who are thrilled Chaz has found happiness with Shara.
