A Brazilian whose face was covered in tattoos removed the most of it and displayed what he looked like behind the ink.

Leandro de Souza was Brazil’s most tattooed guy before deciding to remove the ink from 95% of his body. The 35-year-old Brazilian has previously had two laser hair removal procedures as part of a process to remove his tattoos, some of which are over 20 years old (he got one as a teenager).

Leandro, a photographer from Bage, Brazil, opted to remove almost 170 tattoos after becoming an evangelical Christian.

Leandro de Souza was formerly the most tattooed man in Brazil.

Here’s how he looked not long ago.

Leandro received his first tattoo at the age of thirteen. Initially, his body art was inspired by his favorite rock bands: Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica.

A few months ago, the man began to remove tattoos from his face.

Leandro divorced his wife ten years ago and began a downward spiral of drug use and other disasters. However, recognizing his difficulties, getting treatment from specialists, and turning to faith all helped him climb out of the hole.

I could no longer bear the life I was leading. I felt like a circus animal while attending activities.

Leandro turned 35 in April, and he had been free of alcohol, cigarettes, and narcotics for three years.

The most recent photograph. The tattoos have nearly vanished from his face.

Leandro has undergone two sessions of removal. They occur every three months and last between thirty and forty minutes.

Removal is significantly more painful than application. Three times as painful. Even with anesthesia, the procedure is extremely painful.

This is how Leandro looked before he covered his face in tattoos.

Now he’s hoping to get that look back. He has six more sessions to go.
