Godfrey Baguma’s life could have been very different if he had allowed society to break him. The Ugandan man, born with a rare genetic disorder that deformed his skull and bones, lived in the shadows for a long time.
His unusual appearance caused ridicule, fear and even disgust among those around him. Working as a shoemaker in a provincial town, Godfrey earned his bread, avoiding unnecessary attention.
In 2002, wanting to change his life somehow, he took part in a competition that hardly anyone would call noble – a competition for the title of the ugliest person in Uganda.

At the time, he believed he had nothing to lose. To Godfrey’s surprise, his charisma, sense of humor, and unique appearance brought him an unconditional victory. From that moment on, the man’s life changed dramatically.
He didn’t become a celebrity. People began to recognize him on the streets, invite him to appear on radio and television. He realized that he could use his uniqueness not as a curse, but as a gift.

Baguma quit shoemaking and took to the stage, first as a stand-up comedian and then as a singer. He began performing with a band, writing songs in which he shared his story.
But the real victory in his life was not fame, but love. Kate Namanda, 17 years his junior, saw in him not “the ugliest man”, but a kind, caring and strong person.

Their relationship was not always easy – people around them condemned, ridiculed, and doubted.
Today, they are a happy couple with six children together. Godfrey also has two children from his first marriage.
All the children are absolutely healthy, cheerful and proud of their father.
Today he continues to perform, participate in charity projects and inspire people around the world.
