Not only the freezer, but also the back wall of the refrigerator compartment suffers from ice buildup. To get rid of it, take some vegetable oil and a cotton ball. Soak the cotton in the oil and wipe down the refrigerator wall. A thin oily film will form, preventing water from sticking to the surface — it will simply run down into the drainage hole. Just make sure the hole doesn’t get clogged by cleaning it regularly.

Another method involves hot water and salt. Pour boiling water into a convenient container and place it inside the freezer. In a separate glass of water, dissolve 2 tablespoons of salt. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray it inside the freezer. The ice will start melting faster and will be easier to remove.

To whiten plastic surfaces, use a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. This remedy will help clean and brighten plastic parts. Be sure to disinfect the freezer afterward — you can use chlorhexidine for this.

Finally, if you dry the freezer walls thoroughly and wipe them down with a cloth soaked in glycerin, ice will no longer build up on them.
